Trains - READ THIS

The Cape Town train starts /ends in Pretoria. All other trains depart from Johannesburg. There is no train between Harare and Jo'burg/Pretoria. Under NO circumstances use the METRO near Johannesburg.  I 'm going to repeat this: Under NO circumstances use the METRO near Johannesburg - YOU WILL GET DONE !!!!! Also please note that even the pleasant trip between Pretoria/Jo'burg to Cape Town has been marred with squatter kids throwing bricks at the trains. Happens just outside Potchefstroom and 2 places just outside Cape Town. My advice is to sit facing the direction you have come from if your window is open.

• Travelling 2nd class is fine. Just watch out for flying bricks near any squatter camp - It is a big joke for the kids & pelting the train as it passes is their daily entertainment. A good idea is to sit with your back in the direction you are travelling to. The 2 current problem areas is Cape Town and Potchefstroom.


The Gravy Train
 

• This train is only accessible for some Government officials. Sorry guys - you'll have to use Spoornet!


The Blue Train and Rovos Rail
 

• Very expensive - so we'll leave it out for now. But if you want the info I do have it. And we can book it at the same price you can ... with much less hassles.
