Pilanesberg National Park
Studies in Pilanesberg National Park
Currently there are several study projects happening in Pilanesberg, the most successful being the Elephant Project that went on for years. Done by the University of Natal, they have come up with an absolute amazing understanding of ele's. They have even compiled an identikit on some of them! I suppose if you want to know more about this you'll just have to do a trip with me! Otherwise follow this link to Dr Slotows page: http://www.und.ac.za/und/lesci/elephant/pilanesberg_elephant_project.htm
and
http://www.und.ac.za/und/lesci/elephant/preliminary_results.htmThere is also a lion & buffalo tracking project and brown hyaena behaviour is also being studied. One of the reasons lions could disappear as soon as they see cars is this mentioned project. How would you like getting darted every now and then? So when they see cars they might just duck. But then there are too many cats in Pilanesberg, a higher density per sq km than in Kruger
Then something different - Scorpions. http://home.global.co.za/~quagga/pilscorp.html
