Idiot Gallery -
Pilanesberg National Park
This page won't be updated, even though I have 1000 + idiot pics - May 2019
What really ticks me off about game viewing in Pilanesberg ( and everywhere else!!) are these Darwin Award nominees that have no understanding of the possible consequences of their actions. If attacked by an animal the animal would be shot and unfortunately not the idiot. Cheeky contemptuous attitude rub off on others and sooner than later there will be an incident. The purpose of this page is to exonerate Pilanesberg before it happens. The Park officials can't possibly police the public. Please consider the animals. When in Pilanesberg you are in their space - respect them. When you are sitting on the elephant path and they want to cross, just move away. Believe it or not, the day is actually more enjoyable when I don't experience idiots.. a rare occurance, but it does happen once in a while !

Group of local students in a Kombi and Corolla. Not only did one of them get out 12 metres from Lebombo, an agitated 32 yo bull elephant, they actually herded him between them and he nearly took the Uno behind him right out. |

There is only 1 thing I hate more than the mentally challenged in Pilanesberg, and it is what I call green rhinos full of idiots. We were the 1st to see lions at about 9am; we luckily had at least 5 minutes before the monster turned up. Within 2 minutes his mates raced up(radio) and that was the last we saw of the lions. All or most noisy Frenchies. 5 May 2004 |

The problem with a small car is that you can't see if the grass is a bit long. Now though the 2 lionesses were about 60 m away, there could have been some danger closer. |

When coming around a corner, about 4 persons from both VW's were outside their vehicle with the elephants about 15 metres away and fast approaching. I checked, this was a group of Argentineans. |

Elephant now just out of pic about 3 m to the right. This blasé group of South Americans think it is the the funniest experience they have ever had. On this particular day we encountered 3 males in or partly in musth that was with breeding groups and that would have taken these guys out. Unfortunately they weren't in this one! |

. On the top is a group of about 10 elephants where 1 female gave birth 3,5 hours before - only 12 metres from the road. So No Brains pulls up from the opposite side and leave his diesel engine running. I explained to him nicely that a baby has just been born, this noise is upsetting the ele's; that he is endangering our lives & that he must either switch off or move on. He must have thought I 'm a "doos" 'cause he ignored me flat. So a little stronger I stated yet again that he is endangering our lives - to move on or switch off. So maliciously he moves 5 metres, still running his diesel and now placing us directly between him and the ele's. And true as hell, the matriach calls in distress and 10 of the 30 other ele's in the area come running within a minute and lines up in a united front; ready to charge - I don't think I have to add that it was all the big ones! |
Now this guy takes the cake - RXX 044 GP. I thought the previous guy was the biggest loser I 've ever seen but this guy stops right behind me; the driver gets out and walks to next to my drivers window with a beer in his hand. 12 m in front of us 40 odd elephant are passing including a youngish bull just starting musth. See the beers...? English speaking South African from Jo'burg - i asked!. |

It is impossible to run down these guineafowl at 40km/h, even at 60km/h - 14 May 2005. I estimate the culprit did about 100km/h; it was on an open & clear stretch. Whoever you are, if me or any other tour operator find you or guys like you, we will run you off the road if you are lucky. |
