Parks officials will lock the gate at closing time exactly so make sure you are out! If stuck for some reason hope a nightdrive is taking place. I met a guy last year that got locked in with his mom @ 6pm @ Manyane as he was 2 minutes late. Luckily there was a vehicle that was doing a night drive that came back at 8.45pm that let them through.

I can applaud the North West Parks Board for not jumping on the tourism wagon. Entrance is only R20/car and R65pp; far too cheap. If staying in the 'park' camps and lodges you once pay once and entrances are valid the whole week. If staying outside you have to pay every day.  Day visitors are welcome but please make sure you read the back of your receipt.

1. Arrival at the gate: 1st car has the right to buy their permit 1st; that is just good manners & common sense. So if someone has arrived before you and before the gate opens and are having coffee, have the decency to let them buy theirs first. And hope that I 'm not there to see you try jump the queue - I will tell you off; a great way to start both our days.

2. Blocking the gate: If you have arrived the day before and have a permit, you can drive straight in; that means going in before any day visitors. So day visitors please park in the parking bays till you get your permit. If you drive past and block the gate for someone else, me or someone else won't hesitate to tell you to move. Don't make the poor reception lady's day starting off hard by being an ass.

And more......please read Game etiquette  It is absolutely shocking how little South Africans know about game viewing and what stupidity they display. On 20 May 2006 we saw 2 people out their car taking pictures 5m from Mavuso; him being in full musth. I don't think they know how lucky they are to still be alive.

Make sure you get to the gate in time.
