Books
We
will list all guide books with a general opinion from travellers. We know
that it is a tremendous job putting it together so it is to be forgiven
if it is out of date!! Please note that as South Africa change extremely
fast all guide books 1998 and older are out of date. We also list other
useful reading material we know of.
When
buying a guide book compare information and maps as well as updating and
turnover time. With this I mean time from when the writer stops adding
info till it is on the shelf.

Excellent
hardcovered guide with great reputation. The only book on South Africa
to be updated yearly so far. Detailed information on every aspect on tourism.
Excellent maps as the writer is a cartographer. Train and bus schedules.

guide for a first issue. Easy to use. Reasonably priced. Detailed maps.

Covers
South Africa to Ethiopia. Highly rated by travellers who have used it.
The 40 odd page South African section is short, to the point and relevant.
Ethiopian section excellent.
